Review of McAfee VirusScan by Anti-Virus-Review.Net:

McAfee VirusScan provides good virus protection but misses out on the top spot by trying to do too much, by overloading on features. The feature list is impressive but some are hits and some are misses. The spyware protection features were weak for instance but the instant message virus blocking was handy.

The virus protection was good, it picked up most all the known viruses we threw at it and did well on the the heuristics. The trojan protection was not as good as Kaspersky, the top performer overall. The scan speeds were faster than Norton but not as fast as the top performers and the software impacted system performace a bit more as well.

Installation was bit confusing, with the challenge and response system. The install went smooth after this little bit of juggling was done.

The support and help were very good, with instant messaging support, email and pay phone support. There free updates for a year.

Summary:

McAfee VirusScan tries to do too much at some expense to antivirus capabilities. The features are extensive but the core capabilities of the package and interface don't add up to the best of the group.
