Review of BitDefender by Anti-Virus-Review.Net:
BitDefender provides an internet security package that does a mediocre job at providing an all around solution. Like Norton and McAfee
it tries to do too much. But Bitdefender doesn't hold up well against even those heavweights in any of the categories we tested it in.
While the heuristics picked up internet worms and attachments fine the bitdefender did miss some of the trickier trojans and malware. We also
got the most false positives out of this program in our roundup. This left us with a bad taste our mouth for the virus protection it affords you.
BitDefender was not ISCA certified and it shows in the misses we had received. For instance a trojan was able to leak out of quarantine...not good
The user interface was fine, it took from McAfee and Norton on many features and options.
The install didn't go well the first time, we found that one of install files was corrupted and we had to redownload and install again.
Help was also readily availiable and quick to respond to our questions. We had plenty of problems with this software so we were regulars at the
help desk.
Product Specifications:
- Mediocre scanning and removal features
- Quarantine or deletion features that had leaked some viruses
- Scan scheduling
- Automated virus definition updates via the internet
- Heuristic scanning
- Email protection
- VB100% Award
Requirements:
- Windows 98, Me, NT, 2000 or XP
- Pentium MMX 200 Mhz
- 64 MB of ram
- 40 MB of hardrive space
Extras:
This software includes antispam and firewall utilities. They both didn't perform well. Letting lots of spam through and the firewall was not
nearly as full featured as others out there.
Summary:
BitDefender tries to be an all around security package, but comes in as a dud. There were serious flaws in all aspects of the services that
this software offers. Not Recommended.
